Recently, Suzanne and I had a chance to visit the Rebecca Creek
Distillery outside of San Antonio, Texas. What a great experience we had.
Though they are not the largest distillery in Texas, Rebecca Creek is
definitely one of the friendliest!
We decided to take a tour of the distillery which produces both Rebecca
Creek Whiskey and Enchanted Rock Vodka. Our tour guide was very energetic and quite
knowledgeable about the process. We enjoyed seeing the brightly shined copper
kettle, built on-site specifically for Rebecca Creek, and the intricate piping
required to distill the clear, powerfully potent alcohol that starts out as bushels
of grain and ends up as liquid sunshine. Enchanted Rock vodka is distilled six
times and cold filtered to remove impurities and unwanted forms of alcohol. We
were able to see and touch a cold filter pad that had just been removed. You
could tell by the darkness that it picked up a lot of impurities and was really
cold to the touch.
After the tour, we stepped back into the tasting room. The lady behind
the bar was very friendly and within minutes was pouring samples of their products.
We tasted their whiskey first. Made from corn, malted barley, wheat, rye and
Texas limestone filtered water; the whiskey was smooth and flavorful. It would
be great for sipping or in mixed drinks. Our next sample was their Enchanted
Rock Vodka. It was quite good also, smooth and clean tasting. Our favorite was
the last tasting, their Enchanted Rock Peach Vodka. The peach flavor was
impressive! Bright sweet peach flavor exploded in my mouth as the first drop
hit my tongue. It tasted like biting into a cold ripe Freestone peach on a hot
summer day.
There were no way I would leave without buying a bottle of their Rebecca
Creek Whiskey and Peach flavored Enchanted Rock Vodka. I was sold on them as soon
as we tasted them. That it came from Texas was just the icing on the cake! I
hope you will be like us. Visit the distillery in San Antonio and talk to the folks
that make it. Learn about their hard work and dedication to making a great
Texas product. Suzanne and I enjoyed our bounty as soon as we got home and
shared a toast to Texas Thru My Back Door!
